Chapter 16: Crazy Moments and Unforgettable Times
“Hey!
I thought you had to go,” Cole said with a slight smirk as I walked in the
slightly ajar door.
I
smiled. “I decided to come back.”
I
sat next to him. He was about to hug me but I stopped him.
“Hey…
can we take it easy? I want to get to know you first… You know? Tell me some
things about you and then we will see,” I said as he slowly pulled his hands
away with such a hurt look on his face.
Way to go Eshe!
Could you be any harsher! Really! You don’t want to push him away, just get to
know him a little better. Idiot!
“Okay,
I am sorry,” he said as he looked at his hands that were now sitting on his
lap. “You are right; I should have taken it a little slower. I wasn’t thinking
clearly.”
“I
am sorry too. I did not mean to sound so harsh. This is all new for me. Will
you tell me about you? About your life? Where you were before the Volturi
brought you here?” I asked shyly as I finally allowed our eyes to meet again
and let out a slight gasp.
“I
will. I promise. Just, not now. I can’t. But I will do that. Soon. Is that okay
with you? This is all new for me too,” he said with a slight chuckle at my
reaction.
I
nodded in understanding. “Okay. But don’t forget, you promised.”
“I
will keep my word, Eshe. You may not know me that well, but one thing you can
know for certain, my word is my bond; the one thing I alone have control over
and I don’t take it lightly,” he said with a troubled look on his face. I
couldn’t resist and I reached up to stroke his cheek. He trembled at my
touch.
Yeah, my resolve
lasted about 2 seconds. I couldn’t help myself. He looked so sad and sweet that
I had to touch him. His face is so warm and his eyes… his eyes are…
Cough.
Melanie came in and interrupted us.
“What
are you two doing here alone? Come on! We are all having so much fun!” she
exclaimed as she grabbed my hand and started to pull me off the couch.
That
made me curious. I got up and followed her, pulling Cole’s hand to follow me as
Melanie pulled on my hand. They were all in the garden. They were jumping up
and down like crazy. I took a better look at what was going on. Dawn threw
Phillip an orange and he hit it with a branch. From the power, the orange
splashed everyone with juices and the branch broke in two. They both fell on
the ground laughing.
“Hey,
guys, what are you doing?” I asked smiling at them.
Nessie
appeared out of the nowhere giggling every time she turned to look at Dawn or
Phillip.
“I
–” she giggled. “I told them I used to play –” giggled again, “baseball with my
family! And Dawn and Phillip are looking for a decent ball and a bat to play!
But for now… they are using a tree branch and fruit!” she started laughing and
bending over holding her stomach while trying to talk.
“Apples,
peaches and oranges are definitely not good balls!” Dawn said while she was
laughing on the ground rolling around.
“I
have seen some nice watermelons over there, should we try?” Phillip said and
smirked.
“No!
No, no way will I throw you a watermelon!” I laughed with them.
“Well,
I can throw you the watermelon and you’ll try to hit it!” Phillip said, making
me laugh even harder.
“Okay,
baseball isn’t something we can play in here… I admit it was a lousy idea… but
so much fun trying.” Nessie admitted but she looked like she enjoyed it while
it lasted.
“Can’t
we ask Aro for a ball and a bat or something?” I asked. Everyone looked at me
like I just killed their pet bunny or something… “What? I just asked!”
“I
know! I know! We will play hide and seek!” Melanie said and clapped her hands
together. She looked so sweet; you couldn’t refuse her anything at the moment.
“Okay!
Who will close their eyes and count first?” Nessie asked looking around the
courtyard at us all.
“Can
I play too?” Jacob asked as he walked over and put his arm around Nessie’s
waist and she leaned her head on his shoulder.
Look at those two! I
want to be able to do that. Why am I fighting this with Cole so hard? He really
is so sweet and cute and those eyes……brain to mush alert! Eshe… you have to get
to know him girlfriend…
“Okay,
you close your eyes and count to thirty! No cheating!” Dawn said playfully and
I was pulled from my thoughts as she talked to Jake.
He
kissed Ness on the cheek and then turned his back at us, placed his hands on
his eyes and leaned against a tree. “One… two… three…”
Instantly
Melanie blinked and disappeared somewhere in the garden I suppose. Phillip went
behind a bench while Cole and I went behind that tree we were sitting under
earlier in the morning.
Nessie
was behind an apple tree, which was smart since I could catch her scent
faintly, mixed with green apples.
Dawn
had sat behind a tall bush, between many flowers, her skin and hair color
blending with the dust on the ground.
“Twenty
eight… Twenty nine… Thirty!” Jacob turned and headed for Dawn’s hiding place.
“Gotcha!”
He ran back to the tree but Dawn was there first. She stuck her tongue at him.
He did the same. He headed to our direction. I stretched to take a peek and see
where he was and he saw my hair. Before we could move, he was by the tree.
“Eshe,
Cole, I found you!” We walked over to Dawn to wait on the others.
He went near Nessie but in the meantime,
Phillip got out and reached the tree.
“Agh!
I hadn’t even smelled you!” Jake groaned. He turned again towards Ness; she
looked at him, gave him a quick kiss on the mouth and ran to the tree. She
giggled.
“That
is cheating!” he scolded and then he started tickling her.
We
were all laughing. “Now only little Melanie is left! Melanie! Where are you
little one?” he was walking around the trees and looking behind them. Melanie
suddenly appeared in front of us while Jacob had his head turned, smiled,
blinked and she was on a branch right over Jake’s head. She jumped on his
shoulders and he stretched his neck to look at her.
“There you are you, little monster!” he joked.
She smiled at him as sweetly she had to us and blinked again. She was out of
sight again.
“Come
and find me!” her high, sweet voice called. We all looked for her, having no
idea where to start looking first.
“Ha
ha ha! I beat you all!” She laughed standing next to the tree smiling from ear
to ear.
“Who
wants another round?” Dawn asked eyeing us all.
“I’m
counting this time!” I offered.
The
whole day passed like that, we were playing hide and seek like little children
and Melanie teleporting every time we found her and beating us, but we did not
care. That girl is something else…
Cole,
Ness, Melanie and I ate some pasta Gianna had cooked us while Dawn and Phillip
accepted Aro’s silver cups, which I thought that was really gross but preferred
not to mention it aloud.
Later,
Dawn had seen my look and explained that Nahuel and her other sisters were
drinking human blood as well. I thought about Phillip. It was absolutely
logical to drink human blood as well because he had grown up with a coven of
vampires, who apparently didn’t find anything wrong with killing innocent
people.
After
that, we played chase for a little while before putting little Melanie to
sleep. The others seemed familiar with her room but I was surprised when I
first walked in. It was really light with coral and orange fabrics all over the
place. Her bed had a canopy that was a crisp white over it and with ribbons
wrapped around it. Everything was kind of smaller, I guess this room was tailor
made for little Melanie. Something that also impressed me was the huge
collection of porcelain dolls in here. There were so many, each of them unique.
Different hair color, different haircut, different dresses… And also her
bathroom looked great. It was outfitted in white marble with coral-colored
details. The sink was the thing that caught my attention instantly. The foot of
it was a perfectly shaped mermaid made out of marble and the tap was bronze.
Melanie ignored the amazing room and quickly sunk into a deep slumber. We
exited the room quietly and closed the door behind us.
While
running through the corridor, I almost fell on Demetri who had come to check on
us and looked at us, perfectly disciplined and even shocked that we had the
nerve to run around like little children.
(Okay,
I felt it was weird too, the Volturi could kill us if they wanted but
whatever…)
Dawn
went to greet him, told him we were fine and that he could leave using the most
hypnotizing voice she could and he went away like he was a puppy ordered by his
master. Maybe her voice wasn’t strong enough to affect the ancients but Demetri
could literally bend under Dawn’s will. Poor Demetri… I wouldn’t want to be in
his shoes...
We
spent the rest of the time in mine and Nessie’s room; making a circle by the
way we were sitting all Indian style. Ness was trapped in Jacob’s lap and hands
(not that she didn’t like it).
Cole
had sat next to me and he was coming closer to me whenever he had the chance. I
ignored him, not that I didn’t like it too, but I was the one who asked him to
take it easy… I really am wondering how my dad would react when he found out I
may have a boyfriend… Well to find out I have a boyfriend he must see me first…
alive, I guess… and I would have to admit that Cole was my boyfriend.
How
did I get involved in all that? I guess it’s better to fear you will get old
too soon and die before you manage to enjoy your life than being kidnapped by a
bunch of creepy, ancient, wicked vampires… Phillip suggested we’d make a plan
to escape the Volturi, something that at first excited us all and then we all
realized it was pure madness to try this…
He
didn’t say much after Dawn made a point of how crazy this was and brought him
crashing back to reality. He seemed hurt
and he left shortly after that.
“I
don’t think it is that crazy… If we come up with a really good plan, who knows,
it may work!” I said after a while, breaking the silence and attracting all the
attention. They looked at me like I said the most bizarre thing ever being
told. Well maybe I did, but it gave me much more confidence. “Why are you
looking at me like that? We can!” I said, sounding way much more confident than
I was. “Cole, you know so many things about this place and the guard. Dawn, you can manipulate some of the vampires
here, really, with just a word. I saw you doing it! We can fool them!” I said
and suddenly stopped to observe each of them and blushing, feeling everyone’s
eyes on me.
“Hmm…
You may have a point Eshe…” Cole said actually thinking about what I said.
Jake, Nessie and Dawn seemed to examine this option too, looking at it like a
possibility for the first time.
“Who
will make the plan though?” Dawn asked bringing us back to reality once more.
“Um…
Jake? You are an Alpha… What would you do if we were your pack?” Nessie said, really hoping Jacob would have an
idea.
He
looked into the air as if he was concentrating hard and thinking. “First, I’d
try to contact someone who could help from the outside…”
“This
wouldn’t work. You can’t speak with your own pack and we have no phone. So…
next idea?” I interrupted him.
“Then,
I would learn about all of the possible exits, secret passages and in general
any possible ways out.” Jake continued. Nessie turned her head and kissed his
cheek then snuggled against his chest.
I so want to be
closer to Cole right now. Maybe just a little??
“Easy!
I know the exits of the ‘Volturi Palace’ near the places I have been. At least
the ones that have been used in the past. But you can be sure almost all are
being guarded or they have collapsed with the passing of the years…” Cole
answered and then looked at me questioningly as he noticed I had scooted a
little closer to him. He smiled.
“Almost all?” I asked as I returned his
smile. “So there is possibly an unguarded exit?”
“Yes.
Aro doesn’t know its existence and the only one who knows about it totally
ignores it,” he continued.
“Who
is he?” Renesmee asked curiously.
“Marcus,”
Cole whispered.
“Marcus?
The other black-haired vampire with the zombie-like face who NEVER smiles?” I
said, not being able to describe him in any other way.
He
made a little nod and chuckled. “Yep, that’s him.”
“He
looked nothing more than decorative to me…” Jacob said. “Aro keeps him for his
power but he doesn’t care for much anymore. Edward said he has been this way
for more than a century,” Jacob commented.
“Yeah,
I know. He’s like than much longer than for the last one hundred years you
know… he’s like that since his mate, Didyme, died,” Cole said with a sad face.
“Isn’t
she one of the wives who was killed in a battle?” Nessie asked, making me feel
like I was from a completely other planet. I had no idea what they were talking
about.
“She
and Marcus were engaged, but were never able to marry. She was killed, but not
in battle. That is the public story. The one most vampires, including Marcus
know… The real story is far different
from that one. If Marcus only knew…” Cole explained.
The
others looked just as clueless as I did, which made me feel less out of this discussion.
Seeing this, and with a smile of satisfaction, Cole started telling the story:
“First
you need to know Didyme was Aro’s baby sister and he was the one who turned her
into a vampire… After realizing his power and how talented he was; he with Marcus,
Caius and some loyal followers started creating what now are the infamous
Volturi and their guard. So, he wanted of course to add some of his own blood
to his coven, hoping his sister would have some special gift, like he did.
Didyme turned out to have a power, one that was affecting the others around her
a lot. She was constantly carrying an aura of happiness with her that actually
pretty much messed up with the emotions of the others around her and made them
happy.”
At
this point the description of Didyme reminded me of the image of a fairy making
everyone happy, which made me giggle. This was ridiculous…
“Anyway…”
Cole said looking at me puzzled, but ignoring my ‘for-no-obvious-reason’
giggling.
“Her
gift caused many people to fall in love with her, Marcus included. The
difference with him was that she fell in love with him as well. They were
pretty happy with each other and some centuries later they no longer shared
Aro’s interest for world domination and his lust for power. They wanted to go away
and live on their own. Aro, making the mistake of pretending being happy with
their union and giving his blessing to finally marry and leave, had no choice
but to let them go. But he didn’t want to lose Marcus and his gift from his
collection, so he did what he had to do. He killed Didyme, shortly before it
was planned that the couple would marry and leave the coven, Aro had one last
mission. While going to make a trial for
an immortal infant, there was a fight between the coven protecting the infant and
the Volturi. During the fight, Aro killed Didyme and the story everyone knows
is this… His loving sister was killed
in the battle. Marcus was devastated and has lived totally uninterested in
everything and has acted zombie-like since then.”
“That
is such a sad story…” Nessie said snuggling even closer in Jacob’s embrace to
make herself more comfortable.
“Yeah…”
Dawn and I agreed.
“This
Aro guy is such a freaking monster,” Jacob said as he squeezed Nessie
protectively.
“What
does all this have to do with the exit from here?” I asked, remembering where
this discussion had started from.
“Before
Marcus and Didyme made known in public that they are together for fear of what
Aro would think, they used to see each other in secret. They had created a
secret passage that leads from Marcus chamber to Didyme’s and the wives’ tower
is really close to the ground. We can run from there to the outside, we just
need to reach Marcus’ chamber unseen,” Cole finished explaining.
“This
sounds way too easy,” Dawn said with a snarky tone.
“Marcus,
as well as Aro’s and Caius’s rooms are guarded all the time. We have to come up
with a good-” Cole stopped “-no, perfect
plan, if we want to get out of here… alive.”
At
that moment, I felt fear, not mine but suddenly it was all over me, overtaking
me and awful images of all of us in little pieces here and there and bloody
floors and…
“What’s
happening?” Phillip asked, the fear I was feeling reflected on his eyes.
“I
thought you had left,” Dawn pointed out, her voice sounded shaky for the first
time.
“Something
is wrong. I was reading a book and suddenly felt scared and saw horrible images
that definitely had nothing to do
with my book,” Phillip explained.
“You
what?!” Nessie asked, blushing (no idea why) and giving him a guilty look.
“You
did that?” Phillip asked this time staring right into Nessie’s brown eyes with
his own grey ones. Jacob, feeling the tension radiating from Ness stiffened
next to her and growled.
Everybody
else looked at them with the same lost look, just like I did. At least I wasn’t
alone…
“I
didn’t do it! You must be reading minds or something!” Nessie snapped at him
finally.
He
shook his head. “You did it.”
“But
I can’t. I have to be touching you,” she said confused.
“Powers
develop, change. You have been through a huge change and this may caused this
progression and enhancement to your gift to speed up a little,” he tried to
explain.
“Can
you two explain to us what happened?” Dawn asked, a little pissed for being
left out.
“Nessie
projected her thoughts to me. She was scared and imagined us… dead and I saw
it… every detail she imagined,” he told us.
“All
of us saw,” Cole chimed in.
I
made a mental note to ask him how he knew that I did see it too and stared at
Renesmee in awe.
“Wow.
Really? Congrats, Ness!” I said, although I really would appreciate if she
hadn’t projected to me these certain thoughts.
“I
think we should all get some rest. We can talk about it later,” Cole said as if
a little off kilter as well.
All
of us agreed and the others started to head sleepily to their rooms. Jacob was
still holding Nessie, not trying to hide he would love some time alone with her
and I remembered that I had to ask Cole something.
“Um…
I… I have to go do something I just remembered… It won’t take too long- Eeesh!
Guys are you two paying any attention
to me?” I asked while Jake and Ness, totally ignoring me, started kissing.
“Hello?”
No response. “Anyway… I’ll be back in a little…”
Stupid lovebirds…
get a room… by yourself BEFORE making out… gosh!
I
left the room, angry they pretended to ignore me and… Okay, I admit. A little
jealous. As I was about to open Cole’s door, he turned out to be already
opening it as if he knew I was there, making me almost fall on him.
“Hey!”
I said nervously, not really expecting him to be that close to the door. Like I
was planning on making a ‘big entrance or something…’
“Hi,
Eshe. What are you doing here?” He acted innocent while his ice blue eyes were
examining me.
“How
did you know it was me?” I blurted, tired of this game he seemed to be playing.
“When?”
He raised a brow, not giving an inch.
“Before…
you said ‘we all saw’ like you knew
what the others saw and now you were at the door and didn’t look surprised it
was me,” I said, again, without thinking much and completely agitated.
His
mouth changed into a sweet, perfect smile. “I saw your eyes.”
“What?”
I growled. Yes, growled.
“The
first time. I saw your eyes. They mirrored Nessie’s fear. You are an open book
you know. I can read you ridiculously easy,” he said, his smile growing wider.
“And the second time, I caught your scent. I
could have recognized it even if I hadn’t seen you for years. It is part of me
now, as much as you are,” he said without dropping his eyes this time.
I
blushed and lowered my head a little, but couldn’t help myself and smiled.
“Really?
And how do I smell?” I asked leaning a little closer teasingly.
“Uniquely.
Like nothing and anyone else I have ever encountered… You smell like vanilla
and chocolate… sweet… but with a hint of freshly cut wood making you smell
perfect,” he finished, his voice husky and sexy, full of emotion and dang
irresistible.
Our
eyes locked and we stared. And stared. And stared. It could have been ages, or
just seconds, to me it didn’t matter. All that mattered was that he and I were
here, alone once again.
After
some time, that seemed like eternity to me, he leaned down close to me and our
lips met. Every thought that was inside my head flew away and all I could think
about was him and his intoxicating scent. His lips moved passionately against
mine, but softly and slowly. Waves of heat ran through my body and I felt like
I would explode.
I
had never felt like this in my life. I
was scared but I also felt such fire and trust. Yes, trust if you can believe
that. I suddenly realized that I trusted
him with all my heart and soul.
I
pushed him inside, closing the door behind me, our mouths never parting. He
wrapped his hands around my waist, pulling me closer to him and deepening the
kiss. I felt his breath heavy, longing yet hesitating, but neither of us would
stop or wanted to for that matter.
Finally
after a really long time, we stopped, both out of breath, staring into each
other’s eyes. The ice blue of his eyes blazed with passion and it was so mesmerizing.
I wanted to drown in his eyes.
We
spent the rest of the night like this, kissing, staring, kissing again, until I
fell asleep in his arms exhausted yet totally safe and secure. His body felt
hot against mine and his arms were around me holding me in the bed as I slept
blissfully. Everything reminded me oddly of an old dream I had and I was afraid
to open my eyes, as if it would all disappear, so I just stayed there half
sleeping, half replaying what had happened last night.
His
scent wrapped around me like a veil and I inhaled deeply. It was like a cool,
summer, sea breeze and like a mixture of smells from the jungle. He reminded me
so much of the Amazon that I almost was back there. He moved, moving his hands
but never releasing me, running his hand a little lower and resting it on my
hip. I could have pulled away, but it felt nice and it was not threatening or
overly aggressive, just sweet and inviting.
In
his sleep he murmured. “Eshe…”
“Mmmm?”
slipped from my lips as I heard him utter my name.
“Don’t
leave,” he pleaded with me.
“Why
would I?” I answered honestly. I had never felt safer or happier in my life.
“Just
don’t,” he said and pulled me closer to him.
I
rolled on the bed so that I could face him and my mouth found his. That was
when I had to open my eyes. He was still there, real and mine. He responded to
my kiss and his hands moved up holding my neck, while I was running my fingers
through his hair. His scent and these blazing blue eyes were making me want him
like crazy.
“I
love you,” I told him pulling my head back a little so I could see his
face.
I could not believe
that I said that out loud. Was he ready to hear that? Did he feel the same way?
I know he obviously liked me, but love me? Why did I have to go and say it and
ruin everything?
His
expression turned serious. “I know…”
“How?
Your gift?” I asked a little frustrated.
“You
were talking in your sleep,” he whispered and kissed my forehead.
I
widened my eyes in surprise.
“Just
a little. Until you started dreaming and then you just smiled and were quiet.”
He caressed my cheek and made me look straight into his eyes. “Is something
wrong?” he asked nervously.
“No…
just… you are kind of ‘I-know-all’ and it’s not like I can surprise you… just
being close to me makes you learn more and more about me. You said yourself… I am an open book.” I giggled nervously.
“Oh,
being an open book doesn’t mean I know everything you will do, you can still
change your mind. When I kissed you, I expected you to push me away and leave
or give me another ‘let’s-take-it-slow lecture’. Not coming in and closing the
door behind you.” He chuckled and kissed the tip of my nose.
I
smiled at the memory and his eyes sparkled. He sat up and opened his arms for
me. When his arms were tightly around me he leaned his head near my ear and
whispered.
“Do
you think you don’t surprise me? Really? I know things about your past. But
people change. You change, Renesmee changes, Phillip, Dawn, me… everyone. You
will not know their future just judging from what they did before. And you… you
make things around you shine. You’re optimistic and decisive and positive and
try to lighten things when you can!” He cooed huskily.
I do this stuff? I
have an awful temper (as I realized recently), am negative and pessimistic and
spread panic… or this is how I see myself and how I have been thinking I deal
with everything.
“No,
I am not. You’re wrong. I am negative and make little things seem huge and
panic easily and…” I tried to say but his hand covered my mouth, forcing me to
shut up.
“Phillip
suggested we would leave. Dawn turned him down. I didn’t know anyone would
bring up the idea again, but you did. You made everyone think about it again.
You actually started making an escape plan! I am sure we will escape, that we
will leave this hole because of you! You are special and you have to understand
it. You are here for a reason Eshe….it is your destiny, just as we are each
other’s destiny.” He smiled and his eyes flashed with pride and passion.
He
stopped talking and just held me, while I was thinking, replaying his words,
trying to find sense in them and believe them. We sat there still, just
enjoying the quiet, until the soft, greenish light from the garden came through
the windows and made the room have light green-bluish tones and the silver
frame of the bed glistening waking me up from my thoughts.
I
turned to look at Cole who was smiling warmly. He opened his mouth to say
something when I heard someone else.
“Eshe?
Eshe, where are you? Cole have you-” the door opened and Nessie’s messy bronze
curls appeared and her jaw almost dropped on the floor as her eyes fell on us
lying on the bed all snuggled and comfortable.
“Hi,
Ness!” I said and waved lazily as if it was the most natural thing in the world
to find me and Cole lying on his bed and missing all… night… long…
Yep! I was gonna
have some ‘splaining to do!
“Wha-
Whe-” Nessie looked at me questioningly.
“Looong
story…” I said yawning and pulling away from Cole to try and ease off the bed.
“But,
you’re here… Damn we’re all in trouble. Aro- Aro-” Nessie stuttered.
“Aro
what?” Cole tensed behind me and I stood up.
“What
happened?” I asked worried.
“Aro
came to check on us. And well I had no clue where you were, I thought you were
with Dawn but then I went and found her and she told me she hadn’t seen you and
we couldn’t find you and Aro’s looking for you and he thought you tried to
escape or something and is looking everywhere. And he sounded angry. No.
Furious actually would be a better word for what he is right now,” she
explained without taking a breath.
“Oh
uh… Now what do we do?” I asked as I looked at Cole and saw the fear in my eyes
mirrored in his.
And if he asks for
my hand? He will know our plans to escape… he will know about the passage in Marcus’s
room… and about Cole and me!
“Eshe?”
Cole asked as he reached for my hand to comfort me.
“Mmmm?”
I choked out.
“We
have to go before Aro sends any vampires to look in the city!” he said with a
wild look in his eyes.
“Yeah,
right…” Cole took my hand and we ran behind Nessie.
When
we reached the place where Aro stood, we came to a stop. He looked like he
always did in his black robe. In the tunnels that day, he reminded me of the
vampire cliché of Dracula more than ever before. He stood there, eyes a
dangerous red and his skin glowing faintly in the light of torches.
“Ah…
Eshe, my dear. I was worried.” He said with a sticky sweet voice. There was
still a threatening tone in his voice that scared me. I just hoped my heart
wouldn’t give me away. “You know we have been looking for you? I really would
love to know where you have been and it was so hard to find you.” He offered
his hand but I chose the safest way to deal with Aro and that was to speak
before he could grab my hand.
“I
was looking for Cole and then we lost track of time. We have been together. In
his room, until now.” I blushed hoping that my embarrassment would explain that
we were along and trying to hide it. I would deal with the others later.
He
was looking at me, trying to find one little imperfection, a little detail that
gave away the fact that I was lying, but he couldn’t find any. First because
Cole’s touch gave me confidence and made me feel like I could make Aro believe
everything right now and secondly because I wasn’t really lying. And I don’t
think that the rest of the truth is any of Aro’s business after all.
“Hmmm…
I do see that,” he said, his eerie eyes locking on our clasped hands.
“Well,
I have some things to do right now but I promise you that you won’t miss me. I
shall come back to see you as soon as I can,” he said and laughed his evil,
high pitched laugh then turned to walk away.
This
didn’t sound as cheerful as I would have imagined it should, it was more
something like: I will see when I will
kill you later. A shiver ran through me but Aro had turned around and was
already walking away.
“This
guy is freaking me out more with every day that passes…” I murmured hiding the
terror I felt even at the thought of the Volturi and especially Aro…
And
right now, I started realizing that I was in the devil’s playhouse, the wolf’s
den (sorry Jake). I was in the Volturi Palace and here, Aro was the one who
could do the bossing around….the devil himself…the Alpha (again, sorry Jake).
We were just his toys, who were, apparently,
allowed to live for a little while longer until he tired of us or we did
something to cause him displeasure and he disposed of us. The more I thought
