Red Moon ~ Chapter 19 ~ Leaving Italy

Chapter 19: Leaving Italy?

The fall was easier than I thought although I almost fell flat on my face. Definitely not the right height for Melanie to jump from.

“Eshe, are you alright?” Cole shouted.

“Yup. Send Mel down here!” I shouted back.

“Here I am.” Melanie said as she appeared and balancing perfectly on the roof top we were standing walked towards me.

Next came Nessie, Phillip, Dawn, Cole and last, still not trusting completely the wives Jake jumped off of the window.

“Okay we’re on a roof on Volterra. Yay. Now what?” Dawn asked with fake excitement.

“Try jumping on the balcony under it maybe?” Phillip asked.

This was the easy part though. The hard one was to make the “balcony owners” forget that six half-vampires and a shape shifter jumped from their roof in their balcony while they were having their morning coffee. We quietly walked out of the house that was almost next to the clock tower Sulpicia had told us about.

“Any idea how do we reach the Great Entrance?” I asked hoping Cole had an answer.

He shook his head.

“Great.” I sighed.

“Just ask someone.” Nessie said.

“I can’t speak Italian.” I admitted.

“I know a little. I could try.” Phillip suggested.

“Ask that guy.” Ness pointed at a man who was standing in front of a shop with handmade jewellery.

“Excuse me.” Phillip said and the man turned.

“Si?”

“Scusi? Can you tell me how I can get to the Great Entrance?”

The man looked at him apparently not understanding a thing.

“Grande Cancello?” Phillip repeated in Italian.

“Oh si! Si!”

“Potete darmi le istruzioni trovarlo?” He repeated the question in Italian. Or that’s what I think he did...

“Si!” the man said again and started giving instructions in Italian, which I didn’t understand a word from. I hope Phillip understood him.

“Grazie.” Phillip came back to us with a satisfied smile of success.

“Since when do you know Italian?” Dawn asked him.

“Aro asked Gianna to teach me when they first brought me here, we couldn’t understand each other. I could speak only German and my English was really awful.”

“Oh, nice.”

We walked through one of the largest streets of Volterra and soon the big square was left behind us.

“Shouldn’t we run? They mat realise we’re missing in any moment.” Nessie observed.

“Nah... see this yellow bright thing on the sky?” Jake said and pointed at the sun over our heads. “They won’t expose themselves in the city exactly at noon. And after all the wives will make sure they will notice it too late.”

“Since when do you trust them?”

“They aren’t mean. Actually I had thought they were nothing like Aro... After all Sulpicia was the one who saved my butt from Heidi.”

“What? When? And what’s Heidi’s problem with you?!” Nessie demanded. Oh oh... I looked away ignoring the conversation that was taking place.

“We don’t have time now. Come on, we may not need to run but we could walk faster. We need to catch the bus to Florence.”

Since Jake dropped the subject nobody said nothing and soon we were standing at the bus stop, right outside Volterra’s big, medieval walls. I was nervously tapping my foot while busses with destination Rome, Venice and other cities came but ours was nowhere to be seen. When it finally arrived we were the first to get on the bus and take our tickets. We went in the back of the bus, where no one else was sitting. Melanie fell asleep as soon as she sat on her seat. Poor girl it’s a hard day, especially for her. The ride to Florence was amazing, I was looking out of the window and the landscape was great...

“Eshe? Wake up.”

“No mom, I don’t wanna go to school today!” I murmured.

“I’m not your mom! Come on, Eshe, we’re at the airport!” I finally recognised Renesmee's voice as I opened my eyes.

“Oh, really? Sorry!” I said and quickly stood up.

It was afternoon already and the sky was coloured in tones of orange and pink as the sun was sinking behind the mountains in the horizon. We headed inside the airport building and headed to a ticket publishing counter.

“Hello, how may I help you?” a cheerful brunette, with an awful accent (or that’s how it seemed to me like that because I was still half sleeping) asked behind the counter.

Ugh. By giving us  plane tickets obviously? I answered the stupid question in my head.

“Wait for a second.” Jacob said and made a small nod for us to move a little further from the counter. “Where are we going to go?” he asked.

“Um... Sherrill? I thought we already knew that.” Nessie said with a hello-this-is-obvious look.

“No, we can’t go back there so soon... Sherrill and Forks are the first places they’re going to think of –too predictable. And we’re going to put in danger many friends of ours. We need something, it will take them longer to figure out.”

“What about Amazon? We could go to Dawn’s brother. Nahuel, right?” Dawn nodded yes.

“Actually we could go there.” She agreed.

“We need a place with a phone. Seriously we must have a way to contact with the Cullens. And my pack.”

“Okay, then what about France? We could stay at my parents’ vacation house in the Alps. And then we’ll see. And if we’re lucky this time of the year it will be sunny enough so it’s going to be hard for the guard to reach us.”

“Eshe, you might not have realized it yet,” guess so, I’m still struggling to realize I’m awake and this isn’t all a crazy dream “but this is a great idea! I think it’s the best choice we have right now.” Jacob said.

“So France is it?” Cole asked.

“Yup.” Nessie and Jacob answered together.

Jacob turned to face the brunette and Dawn approached the counter too, we knew that without her help we would never book these tickets.

“Alright, we want seven plane tickets for....” he looked at me. “What airport is it, Eshe?” the brunette gave me a weird look, obviously not believing that Jacob just asked information from a child. I’d happily slap her right now.

Grenoble-Isère Airport, France.” I explained and she typed the destination in the computer.

“Okay, can I see your passports and IDs?” Oh oh. Here we go...

“You did just see them.” Dawn said and the human was already completely hypnotised. “Do you need us to repeat our information?” I believe Dawn’s gift is totally creepy, being able to get in people’s minds like that, but it is really cool.

“Yes, if you could.”

Each of us started giving more or less fake information and the woman typed everything in the computer and printed our tickets. It was so funny, we didn’t use our real names, Jacob insisted that everyone except Phillip and Dawn used Wolf as their last time (really ironic if you ask me). Yeah! I mean who could believe it? Jacob kept his first name, Nessie was Vanessa Wolf, Dawn was Celestine Wolf and Cole was Ian Wolf. But the funniest to me was my name. Evelina Wolf! It was so funny! I mean I could never imagine me as Evelina! I was Eshe! I couldn’t have any other name!

“Please place your luggage over there.” She pointed on her left.

“We don’t have any.”

“Oh good. Your tickets cost 15.000 euro.” Oh oh. Where are we going to find so much money? “Will you pay with a credit card?”

“No, in cash.” Jacob answered and to my surprise, although he pulled out of the wallet the right amount of money there was a lot left in it. If I didn’t know who Jake was I’d believe he’s a member of the mafia. But now that I think of it, we got them from the Volturi. Who are kinda like the vampire mafia.

“Here are your tickets.” The woman replied and handed the tickets to us. “Check in is that way, your flight will take off in three hours.”

Jake thanked her and all of us headed to where she had told us.

“Can I see your tickets and passports please?” Dawn handed the tickets to the check-in man. “Passports?” he repeated.

“You did just see them, didn’t you?” Dawn said using her charm on him.

“Oh, yes, of course! How could I forget?” he said completely convinced.

The tension started leaving my body as we took our tickets back and walked in the waiting room.

“I still can’t believe it! We’re free.” Nessie said excitedly.

“Yeah we are. I think we should try contacting Edward or Carlisle.” Jacob said.

“I’ll go buy a cell then.” She agreed.

“I will go with Ness.” I said and after taking some money Nessie dragged me to the shopping area.

We entered a shop with electronic gadgets and finally found a cell phone. A simple silver one. I don’t care much at the moment, all we need it for is a call after all.

“Can you give us this one, please?” Nessie asked.

“Of course. It costs 40 euro.” Okay I think these Italians are expensive but anyway. She gave the money and we went back to the others who were having a sandwich each.

“Jake, should I call?” Nessie asked impatiently.

“Wait. Eat something first, nothing won’t change in ten minutes.” He said and took a big bite of sandwich.

“Oh good. I’m starving!” I said and grabbed my sandwich and pulled it out of the paper bag and started eating. “Eesh. Is there tomato in it?” I asked making a weird face.

“Yeah, why?” Dawn asked.

“I’m not a big fan of tomatoes.” I replied but kept on eating anyway.

“Here, take mine.” Cole offered his (almost untouched) sandwich.

“No, thanks, eat it. I will go with tomato.”

“Okay I’m done, can we call now?” Nessie asked anxiously.

“Alright, where’s the phone?” I gave the cell to him. “Did you activate the phone number?”

“Yup, just call.”

He punched a phone number quickly and put it on speaker. It was doing this annoying beeping noise while we were waiting for someone to pick it up from the other side of the line.

“Hello? Who is it?” I recognised Alice’s voice.

“Auntie Alice!” Nessie almost shouted.

“Ness? Ness, is that you?” she asked.

“Yep! Jacob and Eshe are here too! And other four!”

“What? Where is here, sweetie?”

“Auntie, we don’t have much time, call us in this number because we have an awful connection!” and it was true it was making such an annoying noise. I always hated over-Atlantic calls, I felt like I could hear the ocean –like fishes were eavesdropping or something.

“Okay, I’ll call in two sec’s.” She said and hand up the phone.

When the phone started ringing again there were so many voices heard that I couldn’t understand a single word.

“Eshe?” I heard my mom’s voice and I felt my eyes becoming wet.

“Yeah mommy? I’m here!” I answered and a tear slipped from my eye.

“Are you all safe?” a woman I didn’t know asked.

“Yes, Kate, we’re good. We’re at the airport.” Nessie said.

“Airport? Where are you?”

“We’re at Florence, Bells.” Jacob said. “We’re going to take the plane for Saint Maurice, France.”

“What? Why are you going there?” Edward asked.

“Dad!” Nessie said and almost jumped off of her seat.

“They will go at our vacation house there.” My mom explained. “But why didn’t you fly straight back to Sherrill?”

“This would be too dangerous for every vampire and shape shifter in the area. They’d come to get us and kill whoever gets in their way if necessary.” Cole said.

“WHO’S THAT? JACOB? GIRLS, ARE YOU STILL THERE?” Bella shouted, freaked out.

“Yes, we’re here. That was Cole. One of these others who are with us.” I explained.

“Human?” Edward asked.

“No, hybrid. Like us dad!” Nessie said.

“What is he doing there?”

“We’ll explain later. It’s a little too crowded here.”

“Eshe? Do you know how to get to the house from the airport?” my dad asked.

“Yes, daddy. We’ll take the bus! We’ll ask for help if we need any.”

“Alright, good. Call us when you get there. I think that today is the day the cleaning crew comes. I will ask them to wait for you and hand you over the key of the house.”

“And when you get there don’t move an inch away. We’re coming to get you as soon as possible.” Alice’s high soprano voice said.

“Of course we’ll wait. I don’t intend to become anyone’s meal anytime soon.” Jacob laughed.

“Keep yourselves safe.” Was the last thing I heard before the line went dead silent and the annoying beeping sound started again.

“Did you notice it sounded as if there were awfully many people there? I mean more than just mine and Nessie’s families.”

“I’m sure my pack was there. They definitely could have caused all that noise.”

“Yeah, Jake’s right. Having his whole pack around is a hell of a noise.” Ness giggled and kissed Jacob.

“Now that you mentioned... do you know who else is gonna be noisy when we get back?” he asked her.

“Ah, shit. Dad.”

“I think I start liking my dad’s non-mind-readingness.” I joked.

“He knew it would happen someday, he just has to accept it.”

“If this explanation is good enough for your dad, alright, but I don’t think he’s gonna like it much.”

“Whatever! We’ll improvise when the time comes. Just keep it out of your head while he’s around.”

“Where did Dawn and Phillip go?” I just realised their absence and started looking around nervously.

“They’re looking around the shops. Don’t worry they won’t go too far.” Cole assured me.

“Okay that’s good, but I freaked out for a minute.”

“You don’t have to, we’re safe now.” He wrapped his arms around me.

“Hm... Maybe.”

“You’re kinda pessimistic lately.” Ness said. “Chill out! We’ve escaped, Aro is hell knows where –which is away from Italy- and we’re leaving!”

“Yeah, Ness, we’re leaving. That’s for sure.”

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Two and a Half Hours Later ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

After a couple of hours of waiting and another hypnotised member of the airport staff we were finally in the plane that was about to take off.

“Please fasten your seatbelts and don’t keep any of your personal belongings on your laps during the take off.” A voice was heard in the passenger’s cabin from the speakers and afterwards a cheerful airhostess came out of the pilot cabin and started giving instructions about what we were supposed to do in case of emergency... blah, blah, blah... Seriously I was starting to wonder...

“She said the exact same things with the one who was at my last flight from Austin to Buffalo! Are we sure she’s not the same transformed?”

“You’re absurd, Eshe! Like people can magically change appearance!” Cole laughed like he said something really funny. I was serious. My eyes stared right into his.

“How long did you think before saying that?”

“Why?” his eyebrows got together creating an almost straight line.

“Duh! I’m the perfect example of what you just described as impossible!”

“Oh.” He started laughing again as he realised how funny it did sound to me. I still looked at him seriously. “Don’t make that face! You’re so adorable! Do you know that?”

“Do you mean that?” I purred.

“Of course silly!” he said and kissed me. There was that tingling sensation running through my body and I forgot everything and felt like everything was going to be alright (I think that this is also the reason he kissed me anyway).

I placed my head on his chest and he wrapped his warm arms around me. I closed my eyes and focused on the rhythmic beat of his heart. It was such a soothing, calming beat. I could keep on being like that, just listening to his heart forever.

This flight, compared to the one to Buffalo was way too quiet. No hysterical passengers, no babies crying, nothing. Just hearts beating, blood rushing through everyone’s veins... Red, sweet blood... Mmmm... I didn’t like that feeling. I had felt it before and hated always. It had been such a long time, I had almost forgotten how it felt but it was back. And stronger than ever. It was bloodlust. I had spent a long time since I last fed on blood, my defences were down, my vampire instincts were kicking in. And the situation couldn’t be less helpful. A plane filled with –hell I dunno how else I could describe it!– really good-smelling plane passengers and I had to have blood soon. At these thoughts I felt the usual burn of thirst in my throat and the hot, sweet taste of blood came to my mind...

No! I can’t eat these people! I can’t eat any people! How much longer is it? Two hours flight? And then one more for the bus ride? I can hold on, can’t I? I clenched my fingers on my seat and squeezed Cole’s arm with my other hand.

“Ouch! Eshe! What’s gotten to you all of a sudden? You’re hurting me!” his voice reached my ears.

“Oh sorry... I didn’t... didn’t realise it.”

“Are you okay? You’re really pale.

“No, I really am not okay. Just promise me you won’t let me go anywhere if I try.”

“Huh?”

“Just promise.” I had to be sure someone will hold me before I’d kill anyone in here.

“Fine. Whatever. But you don’t have to try breaking my arm the next time.”

“Sorry again for that.”

I didn’t speak again and neither did he. I tried to focus on my breathing and it seemed like a great distraction for a while until the smell hit me.

“Momma do you have a tissue?” a little boy who was sitting in the middle row near us asked.

“Oh, your nose is bleeding! Come on, let’s go clean this up, Tommy!” his mom took him and they went to the toilet.

I held tightly Cole’s arm.

“Don’t. Let. Me. Go.” I hissed. “Seriously don’t. It’s a matter of life and death.”

“Eshe? Will you open your eyes please?” he pulled my chin up in such an angle that my eyes met his as they flung open. “What’s wrong?”

I couldn’t risk telling him in a cabin filled with humans. My eyes changed to a deep vivid red, just for a second and then became blue again. His eyes widened in understanding, he nodded and pulled me closer to him.

When the little boy and his mother went back to their seats he spoke again.

“Get up, you’re pale like a ghost, let’s go wash your face.” He pulled me up and walked me to the really small W.C. I let go of him only to throw some water on my face and stood still trying to take some deep breaths while Cole closed the door behind him.

“I’m okay now, let’s go back and sit.” I lied.

“Not so soon. Have you seen your face? You look at people and have this half-crazy I-want-to-suck-your-blood look. You’re not okay.”

“I’ll hold on, it’s much of a choice now.”

“It’s painful for you. I can’t see you like this.” His look softened.

“Then close your eyes.” I said stubbornly.

“You don’t have to be like that all the way to France.”

“Oh right. And what do you suggest? Should I go out there and ask if there are any blood donors? And I will find many willing humans!” I said and started crying because although I didn’t really think seriously the blood donor idea, I thought it would be a good one. And completely gross!

“Come here.” He hugged me tightly. “It’ll be okay. You can drink a little, just enough to hold you until you can go hunting.”

I pulled away from him, my eyes became huge as the meaning of his words hit me. “What?!”

“You can drink a little from me.” For a second I thought he was joking but he was perfectly serious.

“What are you saying? Are you crazy?! I can’t do that!” I hissed although my mouth started watering. I couldn’t do this to him. I wouldn’t do this to him. “I will kill you.”

“No, you won’t. I know you can stop yourself.”

“And what if I can’t make myself want to stop?” I said trembling.

“Then I will make you stop. I’m stronger than you.”

“I’m not doing this. I will wait.” I objected.

He tilted his head exposing his neck like he was expecting me to bite it! I walked away almost tripping on my feet on my way to open the door. His hand grabbed me and pulled me close to him.

“Don’t do this to yourself. I can’t see you be in such agony when I know I can do something about it!” his face was just centimetres from mine and when he turned on his side –actually offering his neck this way- I couldn’t control myself. My teeth sank in his warm flesh and I started drinking. The burning in my neck started fading, faster than usually. This blood was so sweet, so full, much better than animal blood. My body filled with such strength and energy like it had never before. I seriously wonder how I managed to make it so far without any of it. Cole was never complaining, just sighing every now and then.

“Eshe, I think you should stop now.” He whispered softly.

A low moan escaped my throat as I realised what was happening and I let go of him. I quickly took a piece of paper and pressed it against the wound on Cole’s neck. The wound I made.

“You know I won’t forgive you that easily for that.” I hissed. I was grateful he did it, but it was the most idiotic thing he could do!

“Relax. You’re doing fine. Look at you! Your color is already returning.”

“Yours on the other hand is gone. How are you feeling?”

“Except a slight dizziness I’m fine.”

“You’re stupid. And what about the wound? It will leave a mark!”

“No it won’t, you’re not venomous. It will heal. Actually it must be already much better.” I pulled the paper which was blood red by now away from his neck. The wound was nowhere to be seen. Like had disappeared completely. There wasn’t even some swelling around the bitten area!

“How?”

“Did it heal?” I nodded forgetting I was angry with him for a second. “Vampire venom. You might not be venomous, but I am. Vampire venom can work miracles. I’m perfectly fine. Don’t worry about me.”

“I still think what you did is stupid.”

He pushed the door open and walked out taking my hand. I gave him a glare but didn’t want to make a scene in the airplane so I didn’t do anything.  For the rest of the flight I had my back turned to him, who didn’t insist to draw my attention. But I still don’t get it! Why did he do something so reckless? He could have been dead now! At some point I stood up and went in the other passengers’ cabin in the back of the plane, where the rest of my friends were. We didn’t check it when we took our tickets but two of them were in the middle of the plane by the window and the rest were in the middle row in the back of the plane.

“Hey, Eshe.”

“Hey.” I mumbled pissed as hell.

“What’s wrong?” Nessie asked concerned.

“Mel, do you want to go sit with Cole? He’ll be sad if we leave him all alone.” She gave me a little nod and hopped out of her seat.

“What happened?”

“Nothing, I’m fine.”

“Your eyes are brown. You hate brown. Something did happen.” Nessie knew me all too well to hide something like this from her.

“Cole is stupid, this is what happened.”

Phillip smiled, not because he thought I said something funny, but because he had realised what Cole had done.

“What?” I asked him.

“You liked it.” His eyes shaped in a smile again.

“He could have been killed!” I objected.

“Can you enlighten us about what’s wrong?” Nessie almost shouted in my (and probably in Phillip’s too) head.

I explained quickly about the blood incident and why I was so angry.

“We have to go hunting as soon as possible.”

“Ness, I can wait.”

“No. After all... I need to hunt too.”

“Maybe Cole would offer a second snack.”

“Stop it, Dawn, it’s so not funny.”

“ ’Kay, guys, sorry.”

“I think it’s better to sit here for the rest of the trip.” I decided.

“Eshe.” Melanie pulled lightly the hem of my shirt. “Cole says he wants to tell you something.”

“Great. Just great.” I mumbled and went back in my seat.

I crossed my arms over my chest and tried to ignore the fact that he was sitting next to me.

“Can...” he started “Can we talk about this?”

“No.”

“Why?”

“Why are you so stubborn?” I asked back.

“You are the stubborn one, aren’t you? You’re feeling better now, right?”

“Yes, I am and thank you for this, but you still did the stupidest thing on earth! Didn’t your mom teach you NOT to offer your neck to a VAMPIRE?!” I hissed so quickly that humans wouldn’t even had realised I had talked.

“Actually... Not really.”

I sighed. “You risked your life for nothing!”

“I can protect myself from you! It’s not like I had to deal with Aro’s appetite!”

“Yeah! Because he probably would have made sure he’d never get hungry enough to bite you!”

“Why can’t you just stop at ‘thank you for this’ and there has to be this whole lecture afterwards? Forget it.”

“Alright. But don’t you dare do it again because I will make sure I’ll eat you. On purpose.” I was supposed to be trying to scare him but he seemed to be enjoying it.

He chuckled. “No you wouldn’t. Come here.” He hugged me and I rested my head on his side. “Better?”

“Much. But I still don’t get it. Why do you do that? I could hunt when we arrived. Why should you do it now?”

“You still don’t get it, do you? I can’t let you suffer. I love you too much.” I liked his answer. He was so sweet. Actually what he did was sweet, but it also terrified me. This I love you too much made me really happy. I didn’t speak until we landed and had to deal with the airport staff again. Seriously, today I must have said so many lies than all the ones I had said in the rest of my life put together.

“You said we’d get a bus from here?” Jake asked.

“Yep. I just gotta ask which one it is.” I went in the info stand where a cheerful redhead was babbling on the phone. Either everyone is too happy today or I am very grumpy.

“Hello, may I help you?”

“Yes I’d like to know which the bus it that goes to Burg Saint Maurice.”

She seemed thoughtful, probably still trying to understand me. Oh leave it already! Anyway I never could find anyone from France speaking proper English. I repeated the question in French and she instantly explained to me where the bus lot was and which was the one we had to take.

“Merci.” I said quickly and left. “It’s bus 347, it must be already here. Let’s hurry.”

As we exited the main building I noticed how small the airport was in comparison to the one in Florence. The cold air hit my face hardly and I wished I had taken my cloak from Volterra.

“This is it.” Dawn pointed at the bus.

“Oh good, it’s already here! It’s freezing over here!” Nessie sighed in satisfaction.

“Want a little sun maybe?” Phillip suggested.

“Better no. We don’t want unexpected weather to draw the Volturi’s attention now, do we?” I smiled.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ 4 Hours Later ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

“Can you make a stop here?” I asked the bus driver.

“I’m not supposed to do stops that are not programmed. Just... alright.” He pulled the bus at the side of the road and we got off.

It was already really dark, the moon was high in the black sky and we couldn’t see very far from where we were standing.

“Are you sure this is the right place?” Jacob hesitated.

“Yes. See this over there? The house with the lights on? It’s my home. Wow, the cleaning crew will want a good tip for waiting to hand us the keys until this late.” After a little searching more or less in blind, I found the path that lead to the house. I knocked on the door and a man in his late thirties opened the door and asked me if I was Eshe. Which sounded really funny to me for some reason. I gave him a really generous tip and he handed over the key. The house was just like I remembered. As if time had stopped here and it had left it completely unchanged. It smelled like fresh-cut wood. It wasn’t big but had this cosy, homey feeling. This was always enough for me to call a place home. “Okay, let’s find where everyone is going to sleep. Does anyone want to sleep in the sofa or should I pick one?”

“I will.” Phillip said.

“Me too.”

“Okay, then, Nessie, you will sleep with Melanie and Dawn in my parents’ room, Cole, you will go in my room and I will get the sleeping bag from the garage.”

“Come on, I will take the sleeping bag.” He said.

“No way. Don’t ask why, I just always liked sleeping on the floor and never had the chance. Let me enjoy it.” He gave me a weird look as if I was crazy but didn’t refuse. Well, I expected it, not even my parents didn’t get it, but I loved it when I went for sleepovers at friends and slept on the floor. Everyone wanted to find a comfortable place with many pillows and I was literally begging to sleep on the floor. After everything was fixed and everyone was ready to go to bed (or sofa) I took my jacket from the closet and opened the front door. “I will be back in a while.”

“Where are you going?” Nessie asked.

“Hunting.”

“I am coming too.”

“Take this jacket, I will bring another one.” I grabbed another jacket from my room and quietly reached the door where Renesmee was standing. “Ready?”

“Sure, let’s go.” She said and we stepped outside in the cold night. “What are we going to hunt?”

“There’s a lot of deer. And... um... foxes.” I hadn’t thought if it much before but I was ever going to hunt foxes again, it was weird.

“I’ll go with deer.” She agreed with my thoughts and I knew she did it only because I could shape shift into a fox. “We won’t get lost, you know the way back, right?”

“Of course! I lived here for almost a whole year! I know the area!”

We ran in the forest, the thick darkness was concealing our every move. I stood still and concentrated on the forest around me. Before I realised my instincts kicked it and I caught my deer. Even after the plane incident I was very thirsty and I had to have three deers.

“You’re a mess.” Ness noticed.

“I didn’t pay much attention to giving a good impression to the deers.” I smirked. “Are you done?”

“Yes.” She said and yawned.

Back at home I cleaned up myself, and I was really a mess, I had bloodstains all over my body and clothes. I drifted to sleep as soon as my head touched the pillow and I had a peaceful, dreamless sleep until the morning.
